Starting in April 2018, NOFFN inaugurates a new community-supported agriculture program for New Orleans -- CSA in NOLA.
The name pays homage to the Just Food's CSA in NYC program that I worked on in the late 90s. That program started with a few farmers and a few distribution sites back then to one with close to 100 sites and scores of farmers today. In a similar way, we're starting small and building our roster of farmers and distribution sites as interest in the program grows.
This program is a collaboration of NOFFN partners and currently includes Gro-NOLA, Real Food Real Local, ArtKlub, Ceres 504, and farmers.
Currently, we have 2 distribution locations -- Our Garden on Ferry Place, and the ArtKlub on Arts Street. And you can sign up for them here.
We are looking for other partners to broaden our distribution. If you have a location that can serve as a weekly CSA drop-off and you can gather 20 people interested in buying weekly share of fresh local food, then please email us at email@example.com
CSA Stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It allows residents to have direct access to high quality, fresh produce grown locally by regional farmers. When you become a member of a CSA, you’re purchasing a “share” of vegetables from farmers.
CSA shares (enough for 2-3 people) usually include 7-10 types of local vegetable and fruits, herbs, half dozen fresh eggs, plus value-added products. It’s basically a big box of yummy, random and delicious produce that comes from local, community sources.
Payment for CSA shares is handled electronically on PayPal. Shares cost $25.
Every week you place an order for a CSA share at one of our two sites -- Our Garden @Ferry Place, and the ArtKlub. Orders need to be made at least 48 hours prior to the distribution date.
- At Ferry Place orders need to be in by Monday @6pm because distribution is Wednesdays 4-6 pm.
- The first CSA distribution at ArtKlub is scheduled for Saturday April 21, 2018 at the their monthly 3rd Saturdays Art/Flea/Farmer Market, 11am-4pm. Orders need to be in by Thursday, April 19, 2018 @11am.
Come join a CSA today and support our local farmers!
