We believe that building a local food economy requires both the local farmers growing food and the food entrepreneurs making products from this local food. Edible Enterprises assists by:

  • Lowering the risk for opening a food business
  • Providing technical assistance and training in food industry techniques and business operations
  • Helping food entrepreneurs source ingredients from local farmers

What is a Food Incubator?

A food incubator is a business incubator that specializes in the development of emerging food ventures. The incubator helps companies survive and grow during the start-up period by providing clients with business support, services and resources. At our food incubator in Norco, LA, we go a step beyond standard business assistance by providing food entrepreneurs with shared kitchen spaces and equipment, eliminating the costly expense for each company to construct its own production kitchen.

We offer

  • Two government approved shared-use commercial kitchens available 24-7
  • Packaging equipment
  • Ample storage space for tenants (freezer, cooler and dry pallet storage)
  • Location to provide to obtain an occupational license
  • Lab testing services and assistance in streamlining production techniques from the Food Science Program of the University of Holy Cross

Our goals are to lower the risk threshold for opening a food business, provide technical assistance and training in food industry techniques and business operations, and help food entrepreneurs source ingredients from local farmers.

All businesses using the kitchen are required to be permitted by the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals (DHH).

PLEASE NOTE: It is important that primary contact be between the food business and Dept. of Health & Hospitals (DHH). It is important for food business to understand all label, certification, and permitting requirements that pertain to its product. NOFFN can serve to assist you but will not enter into discussions with DHH about your product.

To assist potential food businesses in the process of becoming permitted, NOFFN has developed a Tenant Punchlist that we would be happy to share with businesses after they contact us.

What can you produce at Kitchen?

  • Canned vegetable and fruit products
  • Baked Goods
  • Candies
  • Frozen Foods
  • Dry salts/seasonings
  • Dried herbs/teas
  • NO Beef, Pork, Poultry, or Fresh Dairy (cheese, butter, yogurt, etc.)
  • Seafood may only be used as raw ingredients for products.

 NOTE:   Facility is not currently setup for Caterers or Food Trucks. If you are a food truck or Caterer there are other kitchens that you can contact.


We offer hourly rates meaning you only pay for what you use, removing the burden of a long-term lease, utilities, administration and additional insurance. We provide this substantially subsidized kitchen rate because we know there are women and men who have been selling food informally (from home, on the streets, catering, etc.) and are ready to formalize and grow their business. Additionally, we want to help businesses produce goods that are certified safe.

  • Our basic rental rate is $20 per hour, with a 4 hour minimum.
  • Payment by Cashier’s Check, Money Order, PayPal, or other bank electronic payments.
